For Community Futures

AI for what should
be automated.
People for what shouldn't.

Community lenders do the hardest underwriting in the country. Thin-file borrowers, sector-specific context, blended structures. And you do it with teams of three or four, not thirty. Calliper handles the analytical work so your loan officers can stay focused on your borrowers and your community.

The deliverables

What's in your inbox Monday morning.

i.

Full underwriting reports in five business days

You submit a complete file. We return a full underwriting report with a risk rating, a specific rate recommendation, and a board-facing summary. Your loan officer spends time on the borrower, not the memo.

ii.

Depth your team couldn’t deliver alone

Because the platform handles the heavy synthesis, our underwriters go further into sector context, sensitivity testing, and covenant analysis than any team could economically produce in five days. A level of analysis that simply isn’t possible any other way.

iii.

Configured to your policy

Calliper adapts to your rate parameters, sector restrictions, loan limits, and security requirements. Not a templated checklist. Your policy, your methodology.

iv.

Your data stays yours

Canadian data residency. PIPEDA and OCAP aligned. All processing is sanitised at the source so no identifying borrower information ever leaves your infrastructure. SOC 2 Type 2 audit planned.

From the field

What CFDCs actually say about Calliper.

Calliper doesn’t replace the people who know our borrowers. It replaces the weekend I used to lose writing the board memo.

A loan officer who no longer
loses their weekends

When our loans officer retired, we lost twenty years of borrower history. Calliper keeps the reasoning, the context, and the history in the file. The knowledge doesn’t walk out the door when someone does.

An Executive Director
who has lived this

The math in a CF is unforgiving. With Calliper, our underwriting got sharper, and we redirected that budget to economic development work we had never been able to fund.

The process

How a file moves through Calliper.

Every file is touched by a real human being at three checkpoints. The platform handles the synthesis grind so judgment time goes where it matters.

One-time onboarding

Configure

Before your first file, our senior underwriters capture your lending policy, rate parameters, sector logic, and risk appetite. One-time setup. Annual reviews included.

Then, every file:
1
Intake analyst

Submit & gap check

You upload through a secure portal. We catalogue the file and flag anything missing within 48 hours. You resubmit when ready.

2
Platform · AI + deterministic code

Structured ingestion

A hybrid pipeline parses every document into a structured manifest. Mathematical work — rate calculations, debt service ratios, covenant math — runs on deterministic code, not AI. Correctness isn't negotiable.

3
Senior underwriter

Risk assessment & review

Anchor-based scoring runs against your policy. Then a senior underwriter reads the file end-to-end, validates every conclusion against source documents, rewrites the narrative, and stakes their professional judgment on the recommendation.

4
Principal sign-off

Sign-off & delivery

Final review by the principal underwriter. Memo, scorecard, rate recommendation, and board summary delivered to your inbox. Full audit trail attached. You make the call.

About

Built by people who have sat in your chair.

Calliper is built by LPT & Co., a team that has worked in and around community economic development for over twenty years. We are not a fintech passing through. Akwesasne, Cornwall, and SD&G, Ontario are home — communities served by their CFDC, like the ones you serve. We believe in the Community Futures mandate: that capital decisions made close to the borrower build stronger local economies than capital decisions made far away. Calliper exists to protect that work, not to replace it.

CEO

Fifteen years inside community lending — at BDC, then as Executive Director of ACCFutures. After that, executive roles in cleantech and medtech, working on leadership teams scaling Canadian companies through commercialisation and growth. Also serves as Chair of Launch Lab, the Kingston-based Regional Innovation Centre. Now building the underwriting tools she always needed and never had.

Greg Pietersma
Greg Pietersma
CTO

Operator and former community lending executive. Built a 25-person manufacturing company over thirty years — running the floor and designing the software that ran it — before selling to another operator who runs it to this day. Then served at the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce and at ACCFutures. Calliper is what happens when an operator who has run a CFDC builds the tool he wished existed.

Shannon Tierney

Director of Operations

Five years inside community lending and economic development at ACCFutures — supporting underwriting, file management, and program delivery for the regional fund serving businesses across Akwesasne, Cornwall, and SDG Counties. Earlier, communications and stakeholder work at the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce. At Calliper, designs the operational systems that make every file move on time, and the communications standards that govern how we work with our lenders.

Questions

Things Executive Directors actually ask.

No, and we’ve spent eighteen months proving why. We tried single-pass LLM inference early in development; it produced large deviations from a senior officer benchmark — the difference between a sound decision and a marginal one. So we built something different.

Calliper is a multi-stage pipeline, not a chatbot. Mathematical work — rate calculations, debt service ratios, covenant math — runs on deterministic code, because correctness isn’t negotiable. Document parsing, risk synthesis, and analytical reasoning run on AI models we host ourselves on Canadian hardware. A scoring framework we built specifically for community lending files replaces the generic scorecards that don’t survive contact with thin-file borrowers.

Our methodology validates within five basis points of a senior officer benchmark. And every file is then read end-to-end by a senior underwriter who stakes their professional judgment on the recommendation.

ChatGPT writes essays. Calliper writes credit memos.

No. Calliper prepares the analysis. Your loan committee and board make the call. Every time.

Calliper runs on our own GPU infrastructure in Cornwall, Ontario — not on commercial cloud AI services. Personally identifiable borrower information never leaves our infrastructure. A sanitisation layer strips identifying details before any external service is called, and our reasoning models run locally on Canadian hardware.

We’re built for OCAP, PIPEDA, Quebec’s Law 25, and OSFI E-23. Data residency is Canadian. SOC 2 Type 2 audit is planned.

Every file is signed by a senior underwriter who stakes their professional judgment on the recommendation. You’re not getting a model’s output — you’re getting our underwriting opinion, with a full audit trail back to source documents. If something doesn’t sit right with you, we walk you through the reasoning. If we got something wrong, we own it.

No, and we’d push back if you tried to use it that way. Your team does work Calliper can’t: site visits, relationship calls, the judgment that comes from knowing a borrower for years. What Calliper takes off their plate is the synthesis grind — reading two hundred pages of source documents, building the data manifest, drafting the credit memo. They get those hours back for the work that actually requires them in the room.

Speed: five business days instead of three weeks, often as fast as forty-eight hours. Consistency: the same scorecard every time, calibrated to your policy. Price: fixed per file, no day rates. Capacity: we don’t go on vacation in July. And depth: because the platform does the heavy synthesis, our underwriters can go further into sector context, sensitivity testing, and covenant analysis than a contract reviewer working alone ever could in the same window. You get a level of analysis that simply isn’t economical any other way.

Annual configuration reviews are included. Ad-hoc policy updates between reviews are handled as part of onboarding support at no additional per-file cost.

Nothing to download, nothing to set up. You sign in with a one-click magic link and upload a complete file through a secure portal — no integrations with your existing systems required.

You buy file credits in advance — one at a time during the pilot, or in 5- and 10-packs. A credit is consumed when you submit a file for underwriting, regardless of how the file ultimately moves through the pipeline.

If we find gaps during intake, we send the gap list within 48 hours and you resubmit when ready. Resubmission of the same file within 90 days does not consume an additional credit.

Before submitting, your team can use our intake checker to confirm a file has everything we’ll need — we walk you through it during onboarding.
